I am a believer that each person has the ability to change if that is their true desire. Change starts from within and it starts with a simple thought and/or belief that change does exist and can happen; regardless of one’s current circumstance, obstacle, barrier, and/or view of their situation. When a person puts in the effort and time then will they see the desired result.
I have had the opportunity to work in culturally diverse communities with an array of individuals from various backgrounds providing mental health services, including working for Sacramento County Mental Health Treatment Center, Turning Point Community Programs, San Joaquin County Child Protective Services, various group homes, Sutter Center for Psychiatry, Sutter Medical Hospitals, and St. Joseph’s Behavioral Health.
I have a wealth of experience working with youth and young adults and adults from various cultural backgrounds, including primarily working with youth from disadvantaged communities, active and former gang members, juvenile sex offenders, misplaced adolescents in the foster care system, troubled youth and young adults with behavioral issues in school and community settings, youth on probation, and youth and young adults and adults living with mental illnesses.
In addition, I have an extensive background and experience providing mental health services to individuals living with mental illnesses, including:
Though much of my experience has been working with youth and young adults and in mental health, I do have the skills, practice, capability, desire, and passion to provide services to an adult population that wants to focus on change, growth, and life fulfillment.
Clinical Approach and Practice:
My approach and practice derives from a strength-base focus, in which I assist clients with identifying their strengths, even through adversity, to mirror to them their abilities and potentials they possess. I believe that every person is resilient and resourceful in spite of their short comings and past history. I provide strength-based practice using cognitive behavioral therapy and the use-of-self practice.
As an Associate Clinical Social Worker I am eager to assist, guide, and encourage clients to live an abundant life that is fulfilling without the weight of stress, anxiety, fear, and/or turmoil. Life is beautiful, you just need to look beyond the naked eye.
Educational and Training Background:
I hold a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice from California State University, Sacramento, a Master’s degree in Human Behavior from National University, and a second Master’s degree in Social Work, with an emphasis in Mental Health, from California State University, Sacramento.
